As a studio that values the growth, development and commitment of our dancers of all ages, it’s our pleasure to offer exams and assessments to students who take Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical classes as part of our programme.
While exams and assessments are not compulsory, our experience shows that these formal assessments present a unique opportunity with several key benefits:
Offering students a challenge, and a goal to work towards
Providing a ‘measuring stick’ of the student’s progress
A special occasion to look forward to.
A tangible sense of achievement
In addition to this, senior-level exams can build towards qualifications for aspiring teachers and performers.
Our teachers are registered and accredited to enter students for exams with the Royal Academy of Dance, British Theatre Dance Association and New Zealand Association of Modern Dance.
We offer all students (from ages 3 and up) the opportunity to perform on stage each year.
We alternate each year between a Family Performance or a Concert.
A Family Performance is a relaxed affair at a local venue, giving family and friends the opportunity to see the students in action.
An Extreme Dance Concert is a full-scale theatrical show, in a professional theatre with fabulous costumes, sets, stage lighting and special effects.
Students are selected for Extreme Dance’s performance teams based on ability, reliability, and attitude.
Although it is an honour to be in one of these groups, it is also a large responsibility and commitment. Our competition teams perform at local and national competitions, and also at community events throughout the year, and represent Extreme Dance with pride.
Our focus is on teamwork, supporting each other and always doing your best. If your child has plenty of energy and loves to shine on stage, contact us to find out more.
Selections for Performance groups are made during the year, and invitations are sent out in December for the following year.
Competition is all about working towards a goal and doing your best. It’s a great way to develop technique and stagecraft, and meet other like-minded dancers from throughout the Wellington region and beyond.
Selections for soloists are made during the year, and invitations are sent out in December for the following year. In most cases, dancers will be part of a performance team before they are offered a solo.
We are proud to offer students the opportunity to attend workshops both locally and throughout New Zealand. This is a great way to learn new skills, try new styles, and be inspired!
Where possible we bring guest tutors to Extreme Dance to run workshops and facilitate students attending courses, intensives and seminars off-site.
In the past, we have taken groups of dancers on trips overseas to Australia and the USA and we look forward to this becoming a possibility again in years to come.
